FUQUAY-VARINA — There’s a new community center in Fuquay-Varina. Town leaders cut the ribbon Tuesday on the new Hilltop Needmore Community Center. “This community center is bringing us over 77,000 square feet of new amenities in Fuquay- Varina. That’s nearly two acres under roof right there,” said Blake Massengill, Fuquay-Varina mayor.

The center features three basketball courts, nine pickleball courts, an indoor track and fitness facility and more. They’re amenities David and Gail Berkebile say they hope to use often.

“Basketball courts for me … I love those, and my wife likes the gym of course,” said David.

“The fitness center and the classrooms are awesome too and all that they provide. It’s wonderful,” said Gail. In addition to fitness they also have space for cooking classes, a senior center and other classrooms.

Massengill says the center is about more than just the amenities. It also speaks to the growth the town is seeing.

“This community center brings us not just new amenities but a new location also on the northern side of our town, and so as it’s bigger than our other community it allows a new location to service the other side of the town,” said Massengill.

Eduardo and Alba Decristofaro agree. “Fuquay-Varina is just growing and growing and growing and this is an excellent part of it,” said Alba.

Across the street from the community center will be the new Hilltop Needmore Elementary school, which is scheduled to open in the 2026-2027 school year. The town says you do have to have a membership to use some of the facilities.
